Dear Class,
Moving forward, I expect you to read for a half an hour each day for my class. I've tried to choose books I think you'll really enjoy, so that you'll have fun reading! We only meet once a week, so it's important that you keep up with the reading.
Since there is no class on October 30th, please read the at least the first ten chapters of "The Phantom Tollbooth," over the next two weeks. The book has been uploaded to this site for you. In addition, please write a one page response to the chapters. You can address your personal reaction to the book, but please also address the following:
So far, what do you think Norton Juster is trying to say about using one's imagination?
Why does Milo go on his journey?
How do Milo's reasons for the journey tie into the author's overall message in the book so far?
What are some examples of language/word play you've come across while reading? Why do you think they are included in the text?
Thanks!
