Over the next two weeks, please read through Chapter 12 in "Where the Red Fern Grows."

-Write at least ten sentences about what you think one of the themes of the book may be so far. We've talked about the meaning and purpose of themes in books at length in class, so use our discussions to fuel your ideas. I'm eager to hear your great thoughts.

-Please also make a note of any literary symbols you come across in the book. Just as the wolves were a symbol for danger and menace in "The Wolves of Willoughby Chase," perhaps there are some symbols in this book. See what you can come up with. Is there any concrete thing in this book that stands for something abstract, as we talked about in class?

-Please complete the final draft of your personal narrative and bring a hard copy to class that is ready to hand in. This means you've made the corrections I asked for, proofread carefully, and feel confident, after several drafts, that your work is at its best.
