The ending of "A Cricket in Times Square" is bittersweet because Chester must say goodbye to all the new friends he has made in New York. Write twenty to thirty sentences about a time when you had to say goodbye to a person/place/thing that you loved. Use these questions as a guide. Who or what was the person/place/thing you had to part with? Why did you have to say goodbye? How did you feel about it? How do you feel about it now? Did anyone help you understand the loss, or comfort you afterward? In "Cricket" Chester takes the bell as a memento, (we learned in class that means something a person keeps to remember an experience or relationship), do you have a memento of the person/place/thing you are writing about? Also, please bring a copy of "The Twits" by Roald Dahl to class next week, as we will be listening to the first two or three chapters on audio, and you will be able to follow along this way.
