Grade 5 Program. 

The 5th grade can rightly be called “the year of the fraction, “one of the most important topics of the elementary mathematics curriculum. If you are looking for a thorough and rigorous course in fractions, the grade 5 program is the right one for you!

The main goal of the grade 5 program is to take children on this journey through fractions, being sure that each concept is mastered before attempting to move on to the next, and making the trip as smooth as possible. All operations of fractions - addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, are introduced and explained, along with many varied calculation problems, and word problems. The grade 5 program takes ample time to describe, classify, and help kids learn to recognize the different kinds of fraction word problems. Knowing what is being asked for is key to mastering these problems, and the program focuses on problem analysis. The program will also introduce kids to some interesting techniques of problem solving, in other areas of mathematics, like combinatorics (how many combinations can I make if I have 3 shirts, 2 pairs of pants and 4 sweaters to chose from?), working with patterns, drawing diagrams to help solve a problem. Interesting topics and exciting problems and puzzles from all areas of mathematics will be a part of most lessons, to show children how varied and exciting mathematics is.
