Third OLYMPIAD OF SPOKEN RUSSIAN FOR HERITAGE SPEAKERS IN NYC
by Sergey Torubarov - Friday, 8 April 2011, 12:24 PM

The American Council of Teachers of Russian (ACTR) and the literary magazine
"Malenkaya Kompaniya", are organizing the THIRD OLYMPIAD OF SPOKEN RUSSIA FOR HERITAGE SPEAKERS IN NYC.

This Olympiad will take place on Sunday, May 22 at Kingsborough
Community College in Brooklyn, NY.

Children from Russian-speaking and mixed families, as well as
children of any origin studying Russian, may take part.
Participants may be from any state, as long as the
parents/guardians accept the responsibility of bringing them to
the contest.

Elementary school students (ages 7-12) will compete in
mini-olympiada, according to the rules set up by Malenkaya
Kompaniya Board. The rules and materials are posted on our
Website http://detskiyzhurn al.org <http://detskiyzhutn al.org/>
(there click on OLYMPIADA and go to mini-olympiada. )

Middle and high school students (ages 13-18) will compete
according to the rules set up by the ACTR
(http://www.american councils. org/linkResource s.php
<http://www.american councils. org/linkResource s.php> ).

Winners will get medals and awards of ACTR and of our editorial
board; the Foundation "Russkiy Mir" has agreed to provide books
for each participant; besides, we hope to award special prizes
thanks to sponsors' help.

Each individual or group of participants must be accompanied by a
responsible adult. While the adult is not permitted in the
testing area he/she should expect to wait outside the testing
area until the student has completed the commissions of the
Olympiad.

The deadline for registration is April 20, 2011. The application
form and all info is on our Website at http://detskiyzhurn al.org
<http://detskiyzhutn al.org/> (there click on OLYMPIADA). An
email address must be included so that organizers can provide
last-minute changes and information about where to report for the
Olympiad.
Organizers will try to accommodate registered participants
according to their levels. In order to help us place a child in
the correct level please answer all the questions in the
registration form.

Important change: now ONLY teachers who are ACTR members may
register students for the ACTR Olympiad. If your child's teacher is not an ACTR member, please contact us ASAP and/or ask
the teacher to contact us.

For elementary school children it is a suggested but obligatory
requirement.

Please pay attention that the committee will define the level at
which your child will compete.

All children will get prizes from our editorial board and from
the Foundation "Russkiy Mir". If we get more
sponsors, there will be more prizes for children. Please consider
the possibility of sponsorship. CEKPET/Malenkaya Kompaniya is a
501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Your contribution is
tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. We will gladly
accept Matching Donations if your company participates in the
program.

If you/your company want/s to become a sponsor please contact me
ASAP.
